04/23/2009 - London, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack has revealed his surprise that Frank Lampard was not shortlisted for this season's PFA Player of the Year award.
The England midfielder's name was absent from the six-man shortlist announced last week and Ballack was surprised by the omission.
Lampard has been instrumental in Chelsea's march to the FA Cup Final and last four of the Champions League in recent weeks.
The 30-year-old has scored 19 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions this season.
However, the winner of this year's award - which will be announced on Sunday - will come from either Manchester United or Liverpool.
United contingent Nemanja Vidic, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Edwin van der Sar and last year's winner Cristiano Ronaldo plus Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard make up the shortlist.
"Frank has played consistently at a high level all season," said Ballack. "I don't know why he was not nominated but at Chelsea we know how good he is and that is all that matters.
"Frank is one of the best players in the world for sure and I don't think there are many players in the Premier League like him."
